So I was thinking about this deviation,
[link] in the shower last night. I do a lot of thinking in sort of odd places, and frankly its the times I am most productive. I really like the picture, but I was looking for a more dramatic sky, without having to go in and PS the thing to death. It was shot in the mid afternoon, lens had nothing but a Skylight filter on it. When I'd converted it to B&W, I used the two saturation layer technique, so I ran through all the possible options for how it could look, and none of them was dramatic enough. I finally gave up on it and realised that I need to go re-shoot the picture. I was shampooing my hair, and it just jumped up in my head. I've got a circular polarizer that will fit on that lens in my bag. DUH! That will darken the blue of the sky and leave the whites alone. The rest of the tones should be near what they are in the original.
It felt like I'm finally starting to get to that point where I know enough that my brain throws up ideas, without all of the various parts being there first.
